birthday bread.

for Christmas a year ago, our dear friend Sheila offered to teach us how to make bread. somehow we never got around to a lesson in 2010, so to start this year off right, we planned a bread-making session for my birthday. Sheila has been making all types of breads for many years, so she selected one of her favorites (made with potato and rosemary) for our first lesson. this was such a fun way to spend part of my (24th) birthday. while we waited for our bread to rise and bake, we enjoyed delicious stew with quinoa, and mini carrot cakes to celebrate both of our birthdays. the aroma of baking bread is one of the most amazing smells ever.
the bread was so delicious and cozy and satisfying. we wanted to eat it all right away but we did our best to resist the temptation. we now have big bread-making plans for our future. we hope to be that type of family whose house always smells like warm bread and has fresh loaves in the freezer.
